Michael Hallahan

I am a technician by nature and much of my personal work and work for hire reflects this. While there is certainly a creative planning stage to what I do, in the end, when I’m behind the camera with my subject in front of me, I try to control every variable and leave nothing to chance.

But when I photograph a dancer I am reminded that there is so much in my life over which I have no control. I am sometimes awestruck by the simple beauty of a body in motion.

The dancer brings what the dancer brings and I bring what I bring. We talk about this for a bit and then, whoosh…off we go.

The dancer and I let things happen as they happen and for a while and I forget about myself and the world.

In those moments, I can’t imagine doing anything else.

If you're interested in being photographed, please get in touch. Yes, I do have structured fees for shoot time, image rights, and prints. However, there are times when I have a new concept in the works or I'd like to shoot somewhere new and I'm able to offer greatly reduced rates. I'm willing to travel anywhere in the world and a shoot might cost much less than you'd guess - don't be afraid to ask!

I've been photographing dancers for more than 10 years and working as a professional photographer for more than 20 years.

Though photographing dancers is my favorite thing to do, I'm also for hire for other portrait, commercial and editorial photography under the business name FinePrints. You can view this work at www.fineprintsphoto.com.

I also teach photography classes and offer private lessons.
